First Aid at Work
This course is the most comprehensive first aid course and can be undertaken by anyone; giving them as much knowledge as possible to deal with a larger variety of incidents. It is the recognised option for medium to large or high risk businesses, based on Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines. Most shops or voluntary groups normally have a minimum of 1 FAW qualified person within the staffing.
Course content is in accordance with the Health and Safety Executive (First Aid Regulations) 1981 and only HSE accredited training providers may facilitate this course. Due to the change in legislation, the FAW has a minimum instructor contact time of 18 hours. This is normally completed over 3 days, however can be split over a few weeks if needed.
The FAW is a more in depth course than the 1 day EFAW. The FAW course includes theory, group work, instructor demonstrations, pictures or video and practical application, in a relaxed atmosphere. Our course is designed to inform, give greater understanding aswell as to hone a candidate’s practical skills and build their confidence.

Competency will be based on continuous visual assessment the instructor and 2 short assessments on day 3. Candidates, who complete the course and pass the assessments, will be issued with a HSE approved certificate; valid for three years. (Candidates will receive a personal resuscitation shield for use in the event of an emergency, after the course).
